Re: Start List announced for WDC World 10 dance Championship in Canada

I agree it will be interesting BUT when both are dancing in  a 6 couple where they must be placed 1 to 6 it is a bit different to counting number of recalls in a quarter final.

Also different panels see things differently.

Good observation On your toes.

Hasn't  the talented Christian Millette  represented Canada during the recent So You Think You Can Dance Canada  ?

How can a dancer represent Canada one year and a few months later Bulgaria ?

Is  this a new method of  entering   the WDC  Worlds when one cannot represent own country (Canada)  because  another 2  couples are better ?

What rules  does WDC have  to allow Professional dancers to dance for other countries. What Rules Bulgaria have to allow foreigners to represent them in the Worlds ?  Has Mr. Millette lived in Bulgaria ,   has he had  a permanent residence in Bulgaria  for any significant time, any time at all  ? Has he a proven history of  danving in and representing  Bulgaria   ?

I always  liked  Christian's dancing,  have liked it ever since we were boys and  believe he should be at least # 2  Canadian 10 dance Professional representative; however, this Bulgarian thing is rather curious , don't Bulgarians have 10 dancers of their own ?

What are the Rules allowing competitors dance for another country ? Christian signed the petition for Freedom as a Canadian has he not  ?

bulldog I do not think "so you think you can dance - Canada" is  run under any dance rules.

The situation is not that unusual.  Remember Warren & Kristi Boyce briefly represented Estonia. Point of fact they danced Amateur in the British Nationals one night and for Estonia in the World Pro the next.  They are not alone. Bryan Watson a South African danced for Italy, England and Germany. Anna Melnikova a Russian danced for Britain and Italy. Can give lots more examples. Arunas a Lithuanian dancing for USA and Riccardo an Italian also for USA

I can tell you that the couple, whom I like, are Registered as WDC compeitors for Bulgaria and that is the only criteria necessary.

I suppose so.

It will look odd for the Canadian couple to carry a Bulgarian flag,  marching ahead of the Canadian flag during the parade which is in ABC order.

It would be even odder if they earned the World title for Bulgaria, defeating Canada.

In the war, would that not constitute a treason ?

The Bulgarian WDC member must have accepted this couple as their representative for some reason. So if it is ok for  Bulgaria, what is the problem?

you may be reading and relying on the current  data in  the Dancesportinfo.com   about the couple :

Christian Millette (Canada) & Denitsa Ikonomova (Canada)

From our records

Currently dancing together for Canada

Maybe the couple should request an update and a  change to reflect that the couple represents and dances for Bulgaria, and not for Canada any more.  The couple is not Professional but Amateur, based on Dancesportinfo.net  results.

Since only 2 best couples are allowed to represent a country, this couple has obviously not qualified in the country where they hold  permanent residences - Quebec.

The good news is that Bulgaria has one more empty spot if another Canadian couple would be interested to dance in WDC World 10 Dance Championship in Canada.

Question.  Does Bulgarian  WDC member   pay the  expenses and related  fees to the  Canadian  dancers for representing the excellence of dancesport  in  Bulgaria   ?

kinda strange...but if it is allowed and if the couple's personal info is updated  not to confuse buldog all is all well,     well ?,    WELL ?

Most countries only pay a portion if any money to their represenatatives for world championships. Most unfortunately have to finance themselves.

Christian and Denitsa are now Professional that is for sure.

latin nina Considering the many thousand couples profiled at dancesportinfo. I think it is slightly unreasonable to expect them to have up to date information on every couple.  Unless the couple notify them they have very little way to know change of status.  Perhaps a private e-mail to admin might have been better.

I can assure you that the couple are registerd by WDC as representing Bulgaria  http://www.wdcdance.com/index.php?set_reg_country_ID=51

They must have the approval of the Bulgarian member to participate. I believe that until now Bulgaria had NO  Professional 10 Dance couples and only 1 in Amateur.  I am sure they will be pleased to have the talented partnership of Christian and Denitsa to represent them.

It is a fact that many couples from the former eastern bloc countries are now living in and dancing for other countries.  I think USA and Canada know this very well so for once it is good to see it happen in reverse. It is also true that many couples are not resident in the countries they represent.

I wish Christian & Denitsa the very best of luck as Professionals and in their first WDC World Professional Championship.

For those who want the official facts on Christian and Denitsa here goes.

Their last competition as Amateurs was 28th of April
Denitsa is from Bulgaria and as they wanted a new direction, new challenges with new people and new goals in their career they decided that representing Bulgaria would be a great way.

On the 1st of July, they officially became 10 Dance representatives of Bulgaria in Professional.

They will dance for Bulgaria in the WDC European 10 Dance Championships in Germany a week later 10th October.

GOOD LUCK TO THEM BOTH. As Amateurs they were great ambassadors for Canada and I am sure they will serve Bulgaria well in their new path.
