Re: OLYMPICS WANT "THE BEST"

You two are splitting hairs.

You both agree the best are with WDC - in 2009, can you see forward  beyond 2020 ?

You both agree IDSF is just dreaming, even agree it is up to IDSF to assess, re-assess situation and admit the likelihood of meeting the IOC criteria is unattainable.

Since neither  IDSF,  nor  IOC can know what "dancesport" will look like 20-30  years, and no one can predict where the best athletes will be and under whose control, IOC is doing what they are supposed to do, they tell applicants IF n you do this, IF you do that, IF you meet criteria 1,2,3..10  we shall keep you on a back burner for consideration...

Meanwhile the applicants are advertising for IOC every time they mention the name.

IOC  does not and should not discourage Olympic participation,  and I feel that other "sports" have nothing to say about another sport applicant,  only people in authority do.

bulldog you are right it is the Executive Board that have the final vote to choose which of the short listed sports gain inclusion.   However to think they vote on what they personally feel is not realistic.  They will  have heard the views of other sports, and their opinion is hugely important,   They will have heard the views of all members of the IOC.  They will have the opinion of their National Association.  Dancesport is recognised by only 63 NOCs.  Either dancesport is non existant in their country or they do not see it as a sport..  I cannot see  them going for dancesport as a medal sport under those circumstances. Universality is one of the factors which have to be  considered.  Youth appeal is another and what do we see IDSF going more and more to the Senior Athletes and hardly "Youth". Hardly score Olympic Brownie points to have the best aged over 55 years competitors.

As I read earlier the 2020 sports will be selected in 2013.  Based on that IDSF should now hold their hand up and say we cannot deliver the best.
